Russia Launches Devastating Ballistic Missile Strike on Ukrainian Energy Facility

Russia launches massive ballistic missile strike on Ukraine's oil and gas facility

On the night of September 22, a large-scale ballistic missile attack was carried out by the Russian military against an oil and gas plant in the Poltava region. Naftogaz representatives confirmed that several missiles hit the facility.

According to the first statements, the infrastructure affected by the attack has been inactive for a long time. This is due to the fact that it has been the target of the Russian army since 2022, as it has come under numerous missile and drone strikes over the last two years and has since long ceased operations.

As a result of these regular strikes, the equipment at the object has been out of order for a long time. Nevertheless, it was stated by company officials that this time the destruction caused is fatal and final, as the facility cannot be restored and put into operation. The systematic targeting of the energy industry of the country is one of the key points of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In response to the ongoing attacks on home infrastructure, Ukrainian forces operating under the Ministry of Defense conducted drone strikes aimed at major Russian energy facilities. The strikes were able to destroy oil manufacturing plants such as the Bashneft-UNPZ refinery in Ufa and the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, triggering enormous fires.

The destruction caused by the conflict continues to have a serious impact on the economy of Ukraine, which is monitored by National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. State-owned enterprises aren’t the only ones that are suffering as a result of the destruction of energy assets; private companies also have been severely impacted. Berger Cargo, a Ukrainian logistics company, reported that bombardments caused serious damage of up to 65 million hryvnias to more than 50 % of its warehouses.
