Kasali Reaffirms Strong Commitment to Preserving Lekki’s Rich Cultural Heritage

On 6th June, the rich cultural heritage of the Lekki Kingdom came alive as the sons and daughters, residents and friends of the Lekki community converged to celebrate the colourful Ojude Oba Onilekki 2026 in honour of the Onilekki of Lekki Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Liasim Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun.

 

The event was attended by traditional chiefs, community leaders, youth groups, cultural enthusiasts and special guests from within and outside Lekki, highlighting the traditions, values and culture that define the people of Lekki.

 

Engr. Olubajo, Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), represents the Executive Arm of the Council. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, among other dignitaries, was tasked with paying homage to the monarch and reiterating the council’s commitment to preserving and promoting the culture of the community.

 

It was a colourful celebration with a number of cultural activities, traditional music, dance and symbolic processions that portrayed the history, pride and community spirit of Lekki Kingdom.

 

In his speech, Kasali said that culture contributes to unity and maintenance of the people’s identity and hence it is important.

 

“In fact, culture is a strong vehicle of self-preservation, unity and community development as a whole, and events like Ojude Oba Onilekki play a great role in celebrating our common values, strengthening the bond of our community at the same time,” he said.

 

The chairman applauded the organisers and the royal palace for maintaining an ongoing tradition that was bringing generations together and spreading the rich cultural legacy of Lekki to the outside world.

 

It also gave an opportunity for the residents and stakeholders to meet, share their own history and pay tribute to the traditional leadership of the kingdom.
