Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership in Islamabad on Saturday. The discussions concentrated on two main topics which were the changing regional circumstances and the delicate peace negotiations between the United States and the two countries.
Araghchi held formal meetings with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The delegations conducted an in-depth assessment of all bilateral issues together with current regional situations during their meetings.
Diplomatic Maneuvering Amid Diminishing Prospects for Direct Talks
The senior government officials report that Araghchi delivered specific Iranian concerns to Pakistan. The incoming US delegation will receive these points from Islamabad once the delegation arrives.
The US and Iran have scheduled talks for this week but those negotiations will not occur. The Iranian delegation plans to leave the country before US officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrive for their scheduled meetings.
Ishaq Dar, who serves as Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan maintains its role in supporting dialogue processes. He requested that media organizations should use only official declarations and not create unverified reports about the ongoing negotiations.
Dar has been using telephone diplomacy to strengthen his diplomatic work. He recently spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to promote sustained engagement and regional stability.
Regional Outreach and Security Lockdowns in Islamabad
Araghchi is currently conducting a regional tour which includes his visit to Pakistan. The Iranian Foreign Minister is also scheduled to travel to Oman and Russia to consult closely with partners on bilateral and regional developments.
The US-Iran talks from April 11 and 12 which failed to reach an agreement led to this diplomatic effort which the parties now pursue. The White House announced President Donald Trump had extended the ceasefire with Iran which began on Tuesday for an unlimited time period to create additional time for presenting proposals.
-The first altercation began when on 28 th February US’s & Israeli’s attack resulted in the killing of one important Iran’s supreme chief, Ayatollah Ali Khamanai. The subsequent retaliation led to a Gulf region conflict which expanded into a full-scale war.
The city of Islamabad has implemented a complete security lockdown that has lasted for more than seven days because local people anticipate upcoming negotiations. The authorities have shut down all main roads and security access points to the Red Zone which has resulted in empty commercial zones and halted public transportation services for people who need to travel.
