Deadly Suicide Blast Hits Pakistani Security Office, 9 Personnel Killed and 35 Injured

At least nine Pakistani security personnel were killed, and a civilian was hurt in a suicide attack against a security institution in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 15th May, police said.

Thirty-five other security forces were injured in the attack, police said Thursday night when an explosives-laden vehicle tried to enter a scouts camp in Bajaur district, adjacent to Afghanistan.

Damage was done to the gate and walls around the scouts’ camp.

Thursday’s deadly violence in Bajaur comes after a deadly car bomb and mortar attack in the restive area that borders Afghanistan in the past week claimed the lives of 21 people.

“During the attack, nine paramilitary officers and 10 militants were killed, and the attackers pushed the explosives-laden vehicle through the gate of the compound,” a senior security official in Peshawar said.

The attackers escaped after a long exchange of fire with security forces, at least 35 of whom were injured in the attack, the official added.

Bajaur’s other senior government official confirmed the death toll.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a very active terror outfit in the area, took the credit for the attack.

Pakistan claims that there are terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan, and the latter denies it.

The frosty relationship between the neighbouring countries has turned into a deadly armed conflict in recent months.
