Poland Mobilizes Air Defense and Military Aviation in Response to Russian Strikes on Ukraine

On the morning of September 24, Poland mobilized its military planes and asked for the deployment of aerial means in its airspace, in direct response to the strong Russian air raids on neighboring territories of Ukraine. This fast reaction was organized by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces which quickly mobilized all the forces it had at its disposal and began to keep track of the situation on its eastern border.

The military mobilization was called up as troops under the control of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation started new missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian territory. As these attacks were taking place at very close range, the Polish military authorities immediately began to mobilize their ground-based air-defense systems and advanced radar reconnaissance forces.

These quick defence operations are the result of the strong security presence of the Ministry of National Defence in Warsaw. The activation of military aviation and the deployment of surveillance systems, officials stressed, is only preventive in nature, and only has to do with ensuring absolute security and integrity of Polish airspace during active combat in the immediate vicinity.

Neighboring countries continue to be on alert as bombings continue to hit areas currently being supported by the MOU of Ukraine. It is also maintaining a high level of defense readiness and coordinating its territorial security with the rest of NATO’s defense system, so that any attempts to violate the airspace or missiles, which might stray, are quickly identified and handled.
