The Ukrainian military has destroyed one of the country’s largest oil refineries in the Russian city of Orsk, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said Tuesday.
Orsk is well known as an important industrial centre, and the second largest city in the Orenburg region. It is another large-scale attack across the border on the energy infrastructure of the Government of the Russian Federation.
An official Telegram message from the Government of Ukraine says that the military action specifically targeted the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery. After the attack, there was an active fire at the facility, and full damage assessments are currently being taken.
Orsknefteorgsintez is a very large facility that can process six million tons of crude oil per year. The facility is a critical supplier to the region and manufactures all types of critical petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil, and bitumen.
