The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control has notified the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi to carry out security operations in response to a request from the Government of Punjab, the ministry said in its notification.

The deployment operations have been duly approved as per Article 245 of the Constitution, which provides for the assistance of the Armed Forces to the Civilian Authorities in maintaining law and order on the demand of the authorities.

According to the notification, the Punjab Home Department sought the deployment through a letter dated July 22, 2026.

The federal government then approved this request immediately.

Their three army companies will be conducting “sensitive security operations” to ward off “undesirable incidents” and help handle any “unforeseen situations” that may arise, the notification said.

The deployment will stay for six months and will be run as per the needs of the Rawalpindi district administration.

The agreement will see the army conducting operations in partnership with the district administration to ensure law and order as well as security at sensitive places and important routes.

The deployment will offer extra support to the district administration to tackle any undesirable situation and strengthen the security efforts as needed, the notification said.

The ruling is coming at a time when security threats are on the rise in Rawalpindi.

The notification said nothing about any incident that might have warranted the 6-month deployment.
