Late night on 6th July , armed men raided a police checkpoint in the south-western Pakistani province of Balochistan, a hotspot for insurgency. The local authorities report that 9 policemen have died in the conflict.

The attack had taken place on a post which was thought to be connected with a dam project. The skirmishing escalated into a vicious shoot-out. There were also multiple other officers injured, and some were allegedly abducted.

Later, Pakistan’s interior minister claimed that security forces carried out a “clearance operation” against the insurgents that killed 15 of them.

The attack has yet to be attributed to anyone, but there are several militant groups that operate in the province. It was probably one of them, according to multiple media outlets.
