European Culture Street 2026 Opens in Hangzhou to Celebrate Diverse Heritage

The highly anticipated 2026 European Culture Street officially opened this Friday in the vibrant city of Hangzhou, the capital of east China’s Zhejiang Province. The event which runs until Saturday provides a special chance for both domestic and international tourists to experience the diverse cultures of European nations through direct observation.

Fostering Cultural Dialogue Through Interactive Experiences

The Delegation of the European Union to China and the 27 member states of the European Union and the Hangzhou Foreign Affairs Office join together to organize this immersive event which takes place this year. The organizers of the event have created a schedule which includes interactive booths and live stage performances and hands-on workshops and an exclusive EU Geographical Indications (GI) exhibition.

The street festival offers entertainment while providing essential opportunities for people to engage in cultural dialogue and build interpersonal relationships. The deputy head of the EU Delegation to China Mattias Lentz recognized how important the event has become. “Since its launch in 2017, European Culture Street has become one of the signature initiatives of the European Union’s cultural diplomacy in China,” Lentz stated. He explained that the event enables people from different age groups to experience European artistic traditions which enhance international understanding.

Strengthening EU-China Relations for the Future

The festival schedule matches perfectly with the national development objectives of the country. China is currently preparing to launch a wide array of international cultural exchange programs and optimize multi-level dialogues between civilizations as part of its upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period, which will last from 2026 to 2030.

The city of Hangzhou has been establishing international connections through its international bridge building efforts throughout its entire history. The official recognition of City Sisterhood successfully connects the city to eight locations which are distributed across European Union member states. The city has established diplomatic ties with 13 European cities which establishes its position as a central hub for Sino-European diplomatic relations and international friendship.
