China beefed up its regulations for entry and exit on 15th September to grant more authorities the right to block some citizens from leaving the country on national security and technology issues.  

The new regulations would bar those who breach export-control and technology-import/export laws from travelling abroad if they are believed to be able to compromise China’s industrial and technological security.  

In addition, citizens who have been abroad and have participated in illegal or criminal activity that jeopardises the security or interests of the Chinese state could be barred from returning to China for up to three years.  

Those who give false information in Chinese visa applications may be denied entry to the country for one to five years. The Chinese Government has long been stricter than others in restricting the travel abroad of executives and senior government officials who have easy access to sensitive information. 

Taiwan, in turn, has issued a call to its people to be extra careful when going to China, especially to work in high-tech sectors.
