Military Scores Major Victory Against Boko Haram and ISWAP in North-East

The Nigerian Army soldiers deployed in Operation HADIN KAI have achieved some positive outcomes in their counter terrorism activities, especially in the North-East where they have been deployed, destroying IEDs, recovering logistics supplies, and arresting suspected terrorist collaborators.

The development was revealed in a statement released on Saturday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Military Information Officer (HQ), Joint Task Force North East (JTF-NE) Operation HADIN KAI.

The 135 Special Forces Battalion Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team and the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) responded to intel from locals on June 16 on the planting of explosives on the Biu–Buratai Road.

The troops went on a fighting patrol to the area and found five IED cylinders allegedly laid by terrorists. Before returning to base, the devices were safely detonated with no casualties.

On June 17, another group of troops belonging to the 153 Task Force Battalion, on picket duty in Kirawa, engaged suspected militants in a separate operation on the Miyanti–Ngoshe axis as they were coming back.

The military reported that the soldiers came across an unknown number of insurgents on around 60 motorcycles. After several gunshots were fired, the troops pushed the terrorists back towards Miyanti.

A total of 817 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three motorcycles, two solar panels, 102 sachets of salt, a motorcycle tyre and 2 motorcycle tubes and other spares were recovered from the scene.

It also disclosed that two suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) logistics suppliers were arrested by the troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison as a result of a stop-and-search operation they carried out on June 19th.

The suspects, Mohammed Bukar, commonly known as “Dege”, and his apprentice, Iliyasu Abdullahi, were caught in a Volkswagen car loaded with petrol and relief materials for the benefit of the terrorists.

The military operations are aimed at disrupting the logistics and activities of the terrorists in the North-East, Operation HADIN KAI said.

The army also asked the public to continue to give meaningful information to aid the continuing counter-terrorism operations.
