Troops Eliminate 2 Terrorists, Rescue 4 Hostages and Foil Major Pipeline Attack

The Nigerian Army reports that soldiers have so far in the past 24 hours destroyed two terrorists, retrieved four kidnapped victims and thwarted attacks on pipelines in a series of coordinated military operations in Taraba, Kogi and Rivers.

This is in operational updates provided by the news agency, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), also in Abuja on Tuesday.

The reports said the suspects were spotted in a forested area of Akate, Donga Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State, where they were shot dead by the troops of 93 Battalion.

The report says the items recovered at the scene include an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, magazines, mobile phones and other personal items.

In Kogi, it said the troops of 21 Battalion, in collaboration with vigilantes, rescued four kidnapped passengers along the Anyigba–Itobe road in Ofu Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly left behind by their captors as they tried to cross a seasonal stream, it added, following “continuous pressure from advancing troops.”

The military said that attempts are continuing to recover other victims who are still in captivity.

According to the report, the troops of the 12 Brigade were able to successfully withstand an ambush by the assailants on Kabba-Okene road during a disengagement from a previous operation, causing the assailants to run away with gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, in Rivers, troops of the Fifth Battalion have successfully stopped suspected vandals from blowing up a crude oil pipeline in Ahoada West Local Government Area, on credible intelligence.

There was a quick reaction by troops, who prevented the operation from being carried out and the suspects from running away from the scene, it said.

The military said the operations highlighted ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and safeguard critical national infrastructure across the country.
