The Security Service of Ukraine averted another possible terrorist attack in Rivne. One Russian special services agent was caught with a homemade bomb in his hand as he planted it near a cafe in the central park.
The press service of the SBU reported this.
As the case materials state, the Russian order was executed by a Zhytomyr resident, who was a drug addict and a recruit of the enemy. The suspect was noticed by the Russian special services due to the search for “money to inject a dose” on Telegram channels.
The occupiers subsequently caused the recruited agent to be “sent” to Rivne. He moved into a rented apartment there, and, acting under the order of the Russian special services, made an improvised explosive device (IED).
The probe confirmed that the attacker concealed the explosives in a saucepan and fitted them with nuts to increase the weight.
The IED was then planted, and the occupiers intended to remotely detonate it by making a call to a mobile phone they had attached to the bomb.
In the case materials, the man wore a military uniform in the form of a conspiracy when he was heading to the location where the terrorist attack was planned.
In the investigation, he was found in possession of a smartphone that had evidence of him working on behalf of the enemy.
Investigators of the Security Service told the defendant about suspicion as provided in Part 1 of Article 14, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 258 (help to prepare a terrorist act by a group of persons before a conspiracy) and Part 2 of Article 263-1 (production of explosives or explosive devices unlawfully).
The offender is already in prison. He can be sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison and property forfeiture.
SBU officers of the Rivne region implemented all the measures with the procedural help of the regional prosecutor’s office.
