Japan Urges Summit with North Korea to Resolve Abduction Issue, Says Takaichi

Japanese PM, Takaichi Sanae, has mentioned that the government has asked North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, to hold a summit with Japan to solve the abductions of Japanese people.

Takiichi was addressing a rally in Tokyo on Monday, held by the victims of abduction.

She revealed that she is highly apologetic that no abductees have come back home since five were returned in 2002. She further said that the situation is taken seriously by the government.

Takiichi also mentioned that Japan should take offensive action, and she will do anything to solve the problem where the lives of the victims and her sovereignty as a country are in jeopardy.

She opined that resolving the issue will have immense benefits to Japan, North Korea, and the international community in general.

According to Takichi, it was necessary to reach a settlement when the relatives of the victims are still alive to have a future where Japan and North Korea can enjoy peace and prosperity.

The Japanese government claims that one of its citizens was kidnapped by the North Korean government at least 17 times in the 1970s and 1980s. A bilateral summit held in 2002 saw five of them go home. The remaining 12 have not been accounted for.
