US tells Copenhagen to relax about alleged Greenland influence operation

US President Donald Trump has been making global headlines for a number of reasons. The Denmark and Greenland drama is definitely one of the main topics of discussion. Trump has expressed multiple times his desire to annex Greenland.

Greenland is a semi-autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark (a NATO member and also part of the European Union (EU)). Denmark has long seen the US as one of its closest allies. Therefore, Danes are too shocked by Trump’s repeated announcements about Greenland.

On a trip to Greenland a short time back, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen noted that the US “cannot annex another country.” Nonetheless, US Vice-President JD Vance has accused Copenhagen of underinvesting in the territory.

No attempt to interfere in Denmark’s internal affairs is acceptable

Just recently, the US told Denmark to relax after the top US diplomat in Copenhagen had to be summoned in relation to claims that the US has been conducting covert operations in Greenland, reported BBC.

DR, the public broadcaster of Denmark, quoted sources as noting that the aim is to infiltrate society and promote its secession from Denmark to the US. This update is doing the rounds on social media and is being closely monitored.

Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Denmark is going to be “unacceptable”. Danish intelligence has raised concerns about Greenland being targeted by multiple kinds of influence campaigns.
