It has come to our notice that the Strawhatters Concert Band, a community sensation, is going to perform a special concert to benefit the Saranac School Food Pantry, as per media reports. This is an important update and must be brought to the limelight.
The concert is on Tuesday at the Saranac United Methodist Church. Jeanette, the band’s director and conductor, is a former music teacher and used to direct the High School Band at Saranac Central for a good 24 years.
The concert is going to be held outdoors if the conditions are favourable. If not, the musicians shall shift indoors. There is no set fee for admission. But it is recommended to bring a food donation, non-perishable items or a cash donation.
“Music is something you can do for the rest of your life”
Starwhatters, a community band, has been in existence for more than 60 years. It is quite an incredible update as the band engaged its audience in a musical to support the Saranac Central School’s Food Pantry.
“Music is something you can do for the rest of your life,” Jeanette said, adding that it is fun seeing 14-year-olds sitting next to people a handful of decades older than they are, “playing the same music, all of that is just so cool.”
The pantry mainly stocks non-perishable items and personal hygiene supplies. It is recommended to donate shelf-stable items, such as pasta, rice, canned goods, peanut butter, jelly and bread. The kids are big fans of canned items, it has been reported.
