UNESCO has again sounded a grave alarm and has shown its great concern over the ongoing war in the Middle East, saying the war is exposing some of the most valuable cultural and historical heritage sites in the world to a high risk. The organisation emphasised that further military build-up is not only becoming life-threatening but also jeopardising landmarks of great worldwide concern that symbolise centuries of shared history and civilisation. UNESCO has also reiterated that conservation of such sites is very important since their destruction will be a permanent loss to all of humanity.
Meanwhile, Israeli and American bombings are said to cause daily destruction of important infrastructures of education, science and media in the region. Institutions of learning, research, media and universities are becoming more and more affected, which is interfering with learning, communication and knowledge preservation. UNESCO has also observed that even certain heritage sites have already been damaged, increasing the anxiety that more strikes would result in even more destruction of invaluable cultural assets and institutions.
