UN Security Council discusses Iran’s deadly protests after US request

Thursday session in the U.N. Security Council convened an emergency meeting to deliberate on the fatal protests in Iran at the behest of the United States, although President Donald Trump remained ambiguous on what measures he would take against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Tehran seemed to issue conciliatory words but made an attempt to stop the situation by threatening to take measures against those who continued to kill protesters, including the execution of any of the detainees in the recent bloody crackdown of nationwide protests in Tehran. Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, stated that “everything was on the table as far as the president is concerned.”

Iran shut down its airspace to both commercial and military flights without any explanation in the early hours of Thursday, and some of the employees at an important U.S military base in Qatar were advised to leave. The U.S embassy in Kuwait also advised its staff to temporarily suspend their visits to the various military bases within the small Gulf Arab country of Kuwait.
