Tragedy in Central Java: Landslide Claims 11 Lives, 12 Still Missing

The disaster management agency of Indonesia, located in Central Java, said that a landslide that followed heavy rains claimed the lives of 11 people. Also on 15th November, it said that it was searching for 12 others who were still missing.

On Thursday, a landslide in the city of Cilacap covered the dozen houses in the village of Cibeunying. Antara earlier reported the agency stating that the rescue efforts were hard due to the fact that the people were buried 3 to 8 metres (10-25 feet) deep.

“Eleven individuals have been killed, three of them yesterday and eight more today. The spokesperson of the agency,” Abdul Muhari, informed Reuters that twelve individuals were still missing.

The weather agency says that the wet season of the Southeast Asian country began in September and will end in April, which means there is an increased danger of floods and intense precipitation.

There was another landslide in January caused by torrential rain in the Pekalongan city of Central Java, which killed at least 25 people.
