Seoul Calls on Beijing: South Korea Urges China to Bring North Korea Back to Talks

In an effort to induce North Korea back into negotiations, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung requested Chinese President Xi Jinping to go further with his efforts to convince North Korea to resume negotiations, as the two leaders agreed on a series of agreements to boost their economic relations and other forms.

Their personal encounter was a few hours after they and other Asia-Pacific leaders had concluded their yearly summit in South Korea with a joint declaration committing greater economic collaboration. The two-day Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation was held in the city of Gyeongju overnight after Xi and US President Donald Trump decided to reverse the previous measures and reduce the intensity of the trade war.

In his interview with Lee, Xi demanded that Seoul collaborate with Beijing to exercise real multilateralism, as per Chinese state media, as he still placed Beijing as the guardian of the global trade system overthrown by the Trumpian blanket tariffs.
