Security Forces Seize Huge Arms Cache in Manipur

The security forces in Manipur had made a large haul after recovering 90 illegal weapons and more than 728 assorted ammunition by executing a joint operation.  This was done in five districts of the Imphal Valley. This is important as it is the fourth high recovery in six weeks and shows the government is having more successes with trying to curtail the spread of illegal weapons in the region.

According to NDTV, the police said, “Saturday’s arms seizure is not an isolated event but part of a sustained campaign to weed out illegal weapons and prevent them from being used to fuel further violence in the state.”

 

Weapons and ammunition were discovered in five districts

The search was conducted in the Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts.

  • The recovered arms component consisted of 5 INSAS rifles, 4 Self-Loading Rifles, three AK series rifles, and 20 pistols.
  • Some of the various types of ammunition include caches of grenades, grenades, mortar shells, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
  • Authorities also located and seized 41 magazines and 24 wireless handsets in the operation.
  • This was the fourth major recovery made in fewer than six weeks by the security forces.

 

 


 

Officials reported that these intelligence-led direct actions remain imperative to their mission of restoring peace and public order to the region. The Manipur Police have called on their citizens to report any suspicious activity, while reiterating that their efforts will be coordinated with all security agencies, and similar operations will follow.
