Romania Says It Shot Down Maritime Drone Over the Black Sea

The Romanian military destroyed a maritime drone that was threatening shipping in the Black Sea, and the Ministry of National Defence announced the action on Dec 3, as the worry of threats to shipping in the region increased due to the war in Ukraine exposed by Russia.

According to the ministry, this drone, which was discovered 36 nautical miles east of Constanta, was a Sea Baby. The Sea Baby is a maritime drone that was invented by Ukraine.

A spokesperson of the Romanian Defence Ministry refused to mention the country of origin of the drone but admitted that the drone was a Sea Baby. The Security Service of Ukraine refused to comment when this publication took place.

To neutralize stray mines, a joint task force was created in Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey, since these mines started floating onto the Black Sea after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
