Pakistan and Qatar engage in second round of Higher Military Cooperation discussions

Earlier this month, Pakistan’s top military official, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and Qatari leaders held meticulous discussions on a number of important topics, especially military cooperation and regional security.

This is part of the second round of the Higher Military Cooperation Committee (HMCC) – recognised as a bilateral platform for defence and security. General Mirza holds the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

He met Qatar’s deputy prime minister and defence minister plus the country’s armed forces chief of staff during the recent official trip to the capital Doha earlier this month. This meeting is being broadly reported by media agencies across the globe.

Pakistan and Qatar’s close defence relations in focus

During the second round of the Higher Military Cooperation Committee (HMCC), both the Pakistani and Qatari sides discussed the changing regional security dynamics and reaffirmed their commitment to peace and security regionally and globally.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)’s statement also noted that General Sahir Shamshad Mirza “highlighted historic brotherly ties” and discussed the future dimensions of cooperation in defence and security domains.

It has also been reported that Qatar noted Pakistan’s role in ensuring regional stability and appreciated professionalism and sacrifices of Pakistan armed forces in fight against terrorism. Pakistan and Qatar share close defence relations.
