Earlier this month, a Mount Maunganui family faced a terrible situation as their house turned into debris because of a fierce fire, potentially caused by electrical reasons. In just a matter of minutes, the blaze that started in the garage engulfed the house.
Fortunately, the couple and their children, aged 5, 7 and 9, escaped the house. They had no insurance, a major problem to take into consideration. But the local community has been incredibly helpful in assisting the family in their time of need.
One of the people in the area started a donation page to support the family. At the time of preparing this report, the page had already collected more than $13,000 from 223 donors in 11 days. This highlights the strength of community.
Youngest child facing extremely rare neurological disorder
The Mount Maunganui family is on a mission to rebuild their life from nothing. It has been reported that the youngest child has an extremely rare neurological disorder called Angelman Syndrome, that could cause seizures and problems related to speech and balance.
Belongings lost in the fierce blaze from earlier this month also include specialised items essential for the youngest child’s daily comfort, such as supportive seating, feeding equipment and sensory aids.
The family has got an offer of a rental property – in a great update. It is important to highlight here that a fire can easily become unsurvivable in less than three minutes, as per a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson.
