Nicosia Shines Bright: EBD Crowns Cyprus Capital Europe’s Best Cultural Destination for 2026

According to a press release issued by the Nicosia Municipality, Nicosia has gained a significant international award, and it has been named as the European Best Destination in 2026 by the European Best Destinations (EBD) institution.

The first place, which the Municipality identified, is a dynamic beginning of the new year and verifies the fact that the city is on a stable path in the international cultural scene, as well as a new hospitality destination.

The difference is added by the fact that the annual evaluation of the European Best Destinations is formed on the opinion of an international committee of cultural experts, as well as the participation of people. Europe was rated by more than 22,000 tourists who rated the top cultural attraction sites in the world, with Nicosia having the best overall rating of 18.6/20, and thus emerged in 1st position.

The organizers suggest that Nicosia was special due to the peculiar coexistence of the rich historical past and the modern artistic production, the authenticity of the cultural environment, as well as the rich and dynamic cultural life. Specific mention is given to the unique nature of the final split European capital and hospitality, and the Mediterranean vibe of the city.

According to it, this international status of the city enhances the role that Nicosia plays on the European and global cultural map and proves the idea of the Municipality to become a modern, sustainable, and open cultural destination, respecting the past and investing in the present and future.

Nicosia Municipality has been thanking all cultural institutions, organizations, creators, and citizens who contribute to shaping the culture of the city daily, and it says that it is determined to keep on promoting activities and movements that can contribute to the quality of life and culture.

The cities of Florence, Vienna, Leuven, Šibenik, Verona, Tomar, Rouen, Oxford, and Graz were also on the top ten list of the most preferred cultural cities in Europe in 2026, according to the press release.
