Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has called upon the countries in South America to strengthen their economic links with the Asian region. During the Mercosur summit in Argentina which was held in Buenos Aires on Thursday, Lula made it clear that Asian countries are the driving force to the current world economy.
Lula expressed his ideas on making Mercosur extend its sphere to the Asian region including details of such states as Japan, China, South Korea, India, Vietnam and Indonesia. A Brazilian leader considered that the deeper relationships between the Mercosur and Asia would enable the South American nations to take a more active approach in the global value chains.

Economic Benefits of Market Expansion
The President urged that elevated economic integration with the Asian countries would generate a number of economic benefits to the Mercosur members. These include the increased trade relations, better investment trends as well as better cooperation within the major highways including infrastructure, technology and energy.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has made it clear that the use of the Asian markets will guarantee the Mercosur countries to be insulated against economic changes and be able to develop the region. He urged other Mercosur leaders to make feasible strategic moves and cooperate on projects with their Asian counterparts so as to innovate and operate improved growth.
