The Minister of Culture of Italy, Alessandro Giuli, paid a working visit to Lviv, where he attended the second Ukrainian Culture Conference, entitled “Cooperation for Resilience.” It was organised by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Tetiana Berezhna, and involved the European partners to organise efforts towards the protection of the cultural sector of Ukraine.
This was reported by the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine.
At the conference, Giuli voiced his support for European colleagues in their support of Ukraine, stating that cultural heritage and national identity should be preserved despite the current Russian aggression. Participants noted that cultural sites throughout the country are facing a continuous threat and that international cooperation is an important aspect of preservation.
The Italian minister reiterated his country’s support for this cause. Italy is a co-founder of the Culture Resilience Alliance, an organisation created in Rome in July 2025, aimed at helping to preserve culture in crisis situations. In this endeavour, Giuli announced a package of projects with a cost amounting to €45 million to restore six historical and cultural sites in Odessa.
The project, which will be executed by the Italian Agency of Development Cooperation, also presupposes the creation of a new master plan in order to secure the city centre of Odessa, as well as the training of special professionals collaborating with the Central Institute of Restoration in Italy.
During the fringes of the conference, Giuli, along with the Ambassador Formosa, toured some of the symbolic locations in Lviv that had just been hit by Russian missiles, including the Church of St. Andrew. The visit was also a sign of support to the Ukrainian people and a reminder of cultural losses due to the war.
Italy has repeated its message that it is not just about the military and economic aid that Ukraine is getting, but also about the preservation of the cultural identity of the nation as a vital component of its sustainability.
