An act of compassion has been showcased by the Filipino community in Innisfail, Alberta by joining together during the past spring with the aim of bringing the ray of hope and mobility to the people in the Philippines who are in need. It is achieved during the banquet fundraiser event ‘Spring into Giving’ organized by the Phil-Can Neighbourhood Association and the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion Branch 104, hosted successfully & raised the fund of $4,875.
Initially, their goal was to issue 20 wheelchairs, but surprisingly they were able to raise the funds that can provide 25 wheelchairs to the disabled individuals and each wheelchair cost $195. As per the available information the association had gathered for this event at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Innisfail and there they have planned to present the donation.
“That’s 25 wheelchairs. Our target was 20, and we went beyond that” said Belle Danao, Treasurer of the Association.
The Phil-Can Neighbourhood Association received the heartwarming helping hands from various other communities and individuals which ended up delivering the around 36 wheelchairs. And they were handed over to the Canadian Wheelchair Association. Further they took the responsibility of the rest of the delivery process to those who truly need it. And the President of this association, Grace Gresos, has shared few insights regarding this event that she garnered the inspiration of handing over the wheelchairs to needy people was from her visit to her homeland. Grace believed that the Philippines is the ideal place to impose such humanity-driven act because the impact will be more than estimated.
Also, these acts stand out as a symbol of unity, cultural pride and charity that sprouted from a small community and created the echoes of compassion across the globe.
