Germany to Send $9.7 Billion in Military Aid to Ukraine in 2026 Amid Record Defense Spending

According to a budget announcement made by the German Bundestag, Ukraine is allocated a huge budget of $9.7 Billion in 2026 as military aid by the German Government. The aid budget is part of a larger draft of the federal budget for 2026.

The total spending outlined by the budget for the upcoming year is around $600 billion, an increase of 3.5% compared to 2025. The larger expenditure is calculated to be tackled by Berlin’s plans to borrow nearly $200 billion in 2026, $35 billion more than the previous year.

The country has secured most of the budget expenditure aiming towards defense in 2026. Berlin is looking to boost the defense budget from $71.3 billion to $94.5 billion, largely driven by arms and ammunition procurement. According to Berlin’s medium-term fiscal outlook, the country’s defense budget will continue to grow annually, reaching 3.5% of GDP by 2029.

Germany is also projecting an all time high public investments of €145 billion in 2026, marking an increase of $12.5 billion over 2025 levels, reports United24 Media

Ukraine’s military aid earmarked at $9.5 Billion is consistent with earlier pledges, reinforcing Germany’s role as one of Kyiv’s top defense partners. The final approval by both houses of parliament is anticipated before the end of the year while the debate on the final budget will begin in the Bundestag in late September.

Many reports suggested that Germany is expecting to have a major expenditure clocked for military in 2026 with several defense contracts including thousands of armored vehicles, next-gen drones, and new Eurofighter jets. These contracts are aimed at transforming the Bundeswehr as one of Europe’s powerful conventional armies and reducing the continent’s dependence on US defense systems.
