The Day of Culture of Hungary will be extended to a week programme and given a new independent visual image, that is, those interested in culture will visit not only on 22 January, but all through the week, State Secretary of Culture Magdolna Závogyán announced at a press conference on Thursday at the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest.
According to Závogyán, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation is supposed to coordinate the activities that are connected with Hungarian culture on the territory of the Carpathian Basin. In this attempt, beginning on 22 January 2026, the Week of Hungarian Culture will have a separate branding.
The secretary of the state believes that Hungarian culture gives values, establishes community and assists in defining the Hungarian identity within the world. That is why it is not only the need to preserve and nurture it because of the respect to the past, but also the guarantee of the nation ‘s future.
She noted that the purpose behind the creation of the new visual identity is to enhance national identity in Hungary, the Carpathian Basin, and the diaspora, not to mention all Hungarian communities in which Hungarian culture and tradition is valued.
On 22 January, Hungary celebrates the Day of Culture, which is a commemoration of the time in 1823 when Ferenc Kölcsey wrote the manuscript of the national anthem, the Hymn. It is also celebrated as the Hungarian language and literature day, Hungarian music and arts day, Hungarian heritage day and special programmes in museums, theatres, libraries and community institutions are observed throughout the country.
