The Government of Niger State has given a two-month warning to the families residing in hamlets near the Kainji Lake to clear out of the region and be reestablished by the Emirate Council.
The re-settlement has been required to prevent collateral destruction, with the government getting ready to launch a military counterattack to drive out the terrorists in the region.
This was revealed when the Governor of Niger state, Umar Bago, visited the Emir of Borgu, Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, at his palace in New Bussa, to sympathise with him and the rest of the people of the Emirate following the recent terrorist attack that cost more than 42 lives and an unspecified number of people abducted.
In his view, his government, along with the federal government, is committed to clearing the forest, chasing criminals who have used Kainji Lake as their hiding place, and making the land more habitable to people.
He lamented the number of people flowing into the Emirates without profiling, saying that it is now a security issue despite the actions of the informants that have disrupted the security efforts within the Emirates.
The Governor, accordingly, entrusted the Emirate Council with the duty of lifting its responsibility and collaborating with the security organs and government to any level to fight any kind of insecurity within the Emirate.
The Minister of State of Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, promised that the federal government is equally determined to provide peace and security in the country; therefore, it will contribute to all the efforts to realize the same.
Emir of Borgu, Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, promised to cooperate with the concerned authorities to apprehend informants within the Emirate, indicating that the security of both lives and property is key; that nothing will be spared to ensure that it is guaranteed.
In his view, it will be a welcome move if some tangible steps are taken to move the people as the forest is retrieved and used to serve more of the community.
It may be remembered that on January 4, the Bargu local government area was attacked, and in the Kasuwan-Daji market, traders amounting to 42 were killed, and an unspecified number was abducted.
