Cultural Celebration Shines Spotlight on Filipino Workers in KSA

Cultural Celebration Shines Spotlight on Filipino Workers in KSA

Several Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia and their families came together at the Sheraton Hotel in Riyadh in a special tribute to the 123rd Labor Day, in recognition of their commitment to the labor force as well as their identity, culture and heritage. The Filipino Liaison Association in Riyadh (FLAIR) held an event that presented traditional Filipino dances, costumes and meals that was focused on celebrating Filipino culture. The spirit of the Filipino nationals whose stories of resilience are often overlooked by many, became the highlight of the gathering as they showcased their identity through dance and celebration.

Leadership Presence and Messages of Support

The occasion welcomed Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, H.E. Raymond R. Balatbat and Migrant Workers Office–Riyadh Officer‑in‑Charge, Hon. Lucille T. Gayaman. These leaders offered encouraging messages on workers’ rights, community and cultural identity and reminded us what it really meant to carry out FLAIR’s mission to advocate for OFWs while building international pride and recognizing Filipino culture.

Celebrating Filipino Culture Through Dance and Cuisine

Guests experienced a wide variety of folk dancing, Filipino music and entertainment from the Filipino community. Many guests donned tribal and national clothing, enhancing the event’s vibrancy and authenticity. Attendees were treated to many varieties of Filipino food which brought nostalgia but also had cultural significance for guests.

This event marked an important celebration not only of the hard work and sacrifices made by the OFWs, but also helped to foster a sense of community as Filipinos. Together in one event that combined cultural representative and labor rights advocacy, this event did a great service to the resilience of Filipinos abroad.
