China announces multiple measures to boost consumption statistics

Late last month, reports emerged that China is planning to launch a series of measures to boost consumption numbers, as per the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). This situation is being closely monitored across the globe.

China is one of the biggest economies. Some economic indicators fluctuated in July, but the trend of consumption expansion and investment structure optimisation remains unchanged, said a spokesperson for the NDRC at a press conference.

Li Chao at the NDRC noted that China is already the largest market globally for physical consumption but that there is still a lot of room for expansion in per capita consumption, especially in the services sector.

China to promote inbound demand and stimulate consumption

Last month, official figures noted that China’s retail sales of consumer goods rose 3.7% YOY in July. The combined expansion of goods and services retail sales increased by around 5% in the first seven months of 2025.

The NDRC is going to continue to promote inbound demand and stimulate consumption. You are going to see China putting in considerable effort into enhancing employability and income security, according to a report by CGTN.

China is going to launch large-scale vocational training programmes in order to help jobseekers upgrade their skills. There is going to be a special emphasis on supporting key groups such as college graduates in securing employment opportunities.
