China and Switzerland note establishment of bilateral relations and aim for mutual success

China and Switzerland have been maintaining bilateral relations since 1950. Both countries conduct discussions on a broad range of issues, such as nature, human rights, migration, education, science and finance.

The countries share a strong relationship. China and Switzerland inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2007 to bolster political consultations and bilateral relations in major areas. In 2025, the nations are celebrating 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

Late last month, the Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) noted that both China and Switzerland have been adhering to equality, mutual respect and mutual success for a long time.

China and Switzerland seizing cooperation opportunities

Wang Huning from China’s CPPCC met the President of the Council of States of Switzerland, Andrea Caroni, in Beijing last month. He called on both sides to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders.

The top decision-maker also asked to focus on further consolidating political mutual trust, seize cooperation opportunities, strengthen people-to-people relations and enhance mutual coordination, according to a media report.

Caroni noted his pleasure at coming to Beijing in this special year, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations. He said Switzerland adheres to the One-China policy and hopes to jointly safeguard multilateralism and global peace.
