Iran-linked hackers claim to have stolen 100GB of emails from Trump aides

An Iranian-linked hacking group claims to have stolen nearly 100 gigabytes of emails from some of then-President Donald Trump’s important allies. Using the fake name Robert, the group claimed they would be leaking the emails “soon”. The organization claimed the data includes emails from several key Trump aides, including his Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Roger Stone, Trump’s attorney Lindsey Halligan, and Stormy Daniels, who once claimed to have an affair with Trump. The hackers have already leaked some of the emails—most recently during the 2024 US presidential campaign—and sent the emails to news organizations and people who were working with the Biden campaign.

U.S. Continued to condemn cyberattack

US Attorney General Pam Bondi described the hack as a “an unconscionable cyberattack,” and said officials would work hard to protect the people who were targeted in the emails. FBI Director Kash Patel warned anyone connected with the hacking will fully investigated and prosecuted.

Marci McCarthy, spokesperson for the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency, claimed it was “a calculated attempt to sow division and division.” She said there “will be no leniency” for this type of behavior.

Hackers tied to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard

Last year, US prosecutors indicted three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps for a similar leak.

The Robert group had gone dormant before and resurfaced after US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. They are reportedly planning to sell the stolen emails and have asked news outlets to publish the breach. US cyber officials also warned that Iran may still target US companies and critical infrastructure in retaliation for the recent attacks.
