Gmail Gets Smarter with Gemini AI-Powered Voice Search Feature

Google has started rolling out Gmail Live, which is a new feature that lets you search your email client via voice commands, using Gemini technology. The update will initially be available to Google AI subscribers, Engadget reports.

After its announcement last month and its beta, Gmail Live’s AI feature is finally rolling out. It enables you to search through your email by voice, in a more conversational manner, just like Gemini voice chat, but tailored to the popular Google apps – such as Gmail, Docs and Drive (with separate versions for each).

Google claims the tool will enable you to locate the answers you need within emails, without having to wade through a lengthy thread of conversations.

With conversational search, you can get answers on the fly when you ask questions – such as, ‘What’s my flight’s gate number?’ or ‘What’s going on at my kid’s school this week? – and so Gmail Live can scan your inbox and provide you with answers in a flash.

The same capability will be implemented in the document and notes services, Docs Live and Keep Live. In the first one, Gemini will search through the files in mail, Google Drive, chats or the web, and then organise and make a draft; in the second one, it will go through the stream of ideas you have and organise it into notes.

The new features will be rolling out to Gmail and Keep for Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers, and Docs Live will only be available to Pro and Ultra subscribers, beginning this week. In addition, all features will be rolling out “soon” to Google Workspace business customers.
