Militants attacked transmission towers on the route, taking the main power line connecting Haditha and Baiji out of service, a security source said after an ISIS attack on electricity transmission infrastructure.
An electricity transmission tower in the Haditha-Baiji area was destroyed in the attack, a source said.
The main electricity line between the two cities was cut, Saad Ghazi Mohammed, head of the Security Committee at the Anbar Provincial Council, said early Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026.
Ghazi Mohammed said preliminary information confirmed an electricity transmission tower had been blown up.
The attack was against a main transmission line linking Haditha in Anbar province and Baiji in Salahaddin province.
Also on the same night, a security source said that security forces foiled an attempt by ISIS militants to attack another electricity transmission tower in the area between Baiji, Salahaddin province, and Haditha, Anbar province.
The source added that security forces quickly intervened and disrupted the attack before the militants could reach their intended target.
The attempted attack resulted in an exchange of gunfire between security forces and ISIS militants.
