US Urges Travellers to ‘Reconsider’ Saudi Arabia After Houthi Attacks

The United States has raised the level of its “Reconsider Travel” advisory for Saudi Arabia due to security concerns related to tensions in the region, Houthi attacks and potential threats to the interests of the United States.

The US Embassy issued a warning to travellers regarding the threat of drone or missile attack on US interests and the risk of armed conflict and terrorism in Iran. The advisory also mentioned issues of exit bans and Saudi Arabia’s local laws, such as those that regulate social media use.

The advisory follows security alerts issued by Saudi authorities in Mecca and other places since the escalating regional tensions and reported Houthi assaults.

The United States has also issued a more stringent warning for regions near the Saudi-Yemeni border, urging Americans not to travel there due to the risk of potential attacks by terrorists.

The travellers are advised to be alert, stay informed about the local security situation and follow the instructions of the Saudi authorities and the US Embassy while in the Kingdom. Those planning trips should also check the current travel advice before travelling, as security conditions do not remain static.
