The International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff mission is coming to the country today, on 10 September, to get into the essential discussions with the Government on the economic reform program and the country’s overall macroeconomic outlook.
The delegation, headed by Sri Lanka Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou, will continue its work in the country through September 23, to carry out the combined Seventh Review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program for the 2026 Article IV Consultation. The IMF staff team will closely monitor Sri Lanka’s implementation of structural reforms, and collaborate closely with national monetary policy agencies, such as the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, to evaluate recent trends in economic, foreign-exchange, and other key areas.
The international delegates will review during the two-week visit the public finances and strategies for mobilizing public revenue used by the Ministry of Finance. The financial assessments are more detailed and are meant to assist the Government of Sri Lanka in its ongoing endeavours to ensure a stable economic situation in the country amidst the current domestic and global challenges.
The IMF team will present its results and recommendations publicly at the end of the mission on September 23. The Office of the President of the Republic shall systematically coordinate official information and announcements on the ongoing international financial reviews at home, through the Department of Government Information.
