The U.S. Department of Defense officially announced the establishment of a new multinational task force, according to a report issued by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) recently. A special unit is being created to fly a variety of attack drones in various domains in the Middle East.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) recently announced the new unit would be known as Task Force Falcon Strike. Operating one-way attack drones and other high-tech unmanned aircraft above, on and underwater will be a specific focus of the task force, which will involve the use of military personnel from both countries and partner nations in the region.

Military officials said they would be able to substantially increase the attack drone arsenal in the Middle East with the help of regional partners who will be incorporated into the TF Falcon Strike. The command is convinced this integration will directly shape a strong, combined and multi-domain deterrent force.

In a recent public statement, CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper emphasized the strategic importance of the new unit. He said Task Force Falcon Strike will mark on-going successes of the Scorpion Strike drone task force, and draw from the “tremendous innovation” that has been seen in the region from allies.

Cooper also pointed out that by linking and deploying these new unmanned capabilities together, the United States and its regional partners will become far more effective.

Task Force Falcon Strike was officially launched only nine months after CENTCOM was formed with Task Force Scorpion Strike, which was described as the U.S. military’s first dedicated one-way attack drone unit to operate in the Middle East.
