The Ministry of Culture and Information organised 350 cultural, educational, scientific and sporting events to celebrate Abai Day, which brought together over 50,000 participants and spectators in the country, according to the report by Kazinform News Agency. 

The works of the poet and his era were presented in the Zhidebai-Borili Museum-Reserve in Semey. A separate exhibition was dedicated to Abai’s image in the visual arts. The program also included a literary quest and the Abai Song Festival to merge the museum’s history with contemporary formats to involve the audience. 

The National Museum organised a thematic tour and a lesson in the Museum on the life and ideas of Abai. The Abylkhan Kasteyev National Museum of Arts presented the children with the poet’s legacy, using the works of Kazakh artists. At the same time, an exhibition on the actualisation of Abai’s ideas in modern Kazakhstan was opened at the Otyrar Museum-Reserve. 

The largest event was Abai Alemi (World of Abai) musical and poetry evening in Almaty that was attended by over 20,000 residents and visitors. The event also featured the premiere of the documentary film AlgashqyKitap (First Book), which tells the story of the first collection of Abai’s works, published in 1909. 

The celebration went on and also took place in other countries, such as the round table Abai – An Outstanding Personality, which was organised at the Kazakhstan Cultural Centre in Beijing with the participation of a representative of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China and the Jintai Museum. Special attention was paid to the long history of Chinese scholars, writers and translators in the study and popularisation of Abai’s works. 

The Abai Joly – 100 Miles (Abai’s Path – 100 miles) ultramarathon, as well as the national aitys Adamzattyn Abaiy, took place in the Abai region.

In the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Astana, a forum of young writers took place, and in the cities and regions of Shymkent and Almaty, Abai’s Readings, theatre performances, exhibitions, concerts and educational projects were held.

Earlier, it was reported that the Abai Library Project won the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation program.
