Man Arrested for Allegedly Spying on Trump Golf Course Security Ahead of President’s Visit

The Marine veteran was apprehended on 2nd August outside Trump National Golf Club in Southern California for allegedly taking photos of federal agents and watching the security preparations for President Donald Trump’s visit.

The suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele of Downey, is 38 years old. He was said to be carrying ammunition, and he told agents that he was with the State Department. Later, investigators discovered a loaded gun, binoculars and a badge related to security in his vehicle.

During the search of Taele’s residence, investigators found an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, radio equipment, and other documents in his home, including notebooks with “concerning statements,” which authorities say are under FBI investigation.

Taele isn’t known to be targeting Trump at this time, but investigators continue to search for evidence of such an attack, officials said. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Secret Service are involved.

Taele pleaded not guilty to weapons charges and a separate robbery charge. He was released on $250,000 bail with a stay-away order from Trump’s golf club and weapons.

He is also charged with having an unregistered short-barreled rifle, with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Taele’s previous military service was in the U.S. Marines from 2008 to 2016, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, as a logistics specialist.
