On 24 July, the 2026 Sichuan Ganzi Mountain Culture & Tourism Festival began in Daofu County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China, at the Yuke Grassland. A number of activities like performances and exhibitions about the intangible cultural heritage (ICH), folk customs experience, etc. will be organised to showcase the distinctive nomadic culture of the region, attracting many participants who are eager to delve into the charm of the grassland culture.

During the opening ceremony, Yuke Grassland became a lively grassland, and local herders demonstrated their traditional herding skills, including driving cattle and setting up the black yak-hair tent. It vividly described the life of the ancient nomadic community of the Kham, who traditionally moved from place to place with the seasons. The event also included a grand parade of heavy cavalry and Gesar riders, who were dressed up in traditional costumes and paraded across the grasslands, representing the heroic spirit of the region.

A parade of ethnic costumes was presented, mixed with the old and the new, including pulua, a handwoven wool textile from Tibet. A desire for pastoral life came over me as the scenes of nomadic migration played out, Zhang said, visiting from Beijing.

The festival has eight major events, including the Ganzi 1,000-person ICH livestream performance and the Guozhuang gala, and will be running until 26 July. Furthermore, the grassland market events such as ICH workshops, local produce exhibitions, and music events provide a rich cultural experience to the visitors.

The county of Daofu has a mean summer temperature of 24°C, and is famous for its natural scenery and traditions. More than 104 million tourists visited the county from July 2021 to June 2026, leaving a tourism revenue of nearly $1.57 billion (11.454 billion yuan) during the period.
