The government has stated that the security forces are ready to take measures to counter any unconstitutional activities planned for the protests on July 31. 

Authorities have a commitment to preserve peace and public order, said Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe. He emphasised that Zimbabwe is a rule-of-law country.

The government has urged against illegal demonstrations.

In response to the planned demonstration, Kazembe said law enforcement agencies will be responding to any illegal actions carried out by the demonstrators.

This is a country under the rule of law; this is a country with law enforcement agencies, and I can assure you that anything of that sort won’t happen, he said. “There will be agents who are ready and waiting.”

In addition, the minister asked the citizens to address issues in a legal and constitutional manner. He stated that ‘unlawful action’ would be unacceptable.

“People have expressed themselves, people are happy, things have been done constitutionally (and that would be) unconstitutional for anyone to think otherwise on July 31.”

The authorities promise to be peaceful.

Kazembe further recognised that people have a right to voice their opinions. He cautioned, however, that lawbreakers will be dealt with.

He stated that security agencies would keep an eye on the situation and ensure public safety.

“Well, people can say anything they want on social media, but I can tell you this: this is a peaceful country and come July 31st there will be peace and tranquillity.”

The minister’s comments come after authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation in anticipation of the planned demonstrations. The government claims to be vigilant in enforcing the law and maintaining peace throughout the country.
