Instagram has introduced a brand new feature called Replace Audio that lets users replace the music in their feed posts and carousels at any point in time, even after it has been published, without having to delete and re-upload the content. 

Users can now swap out a post’s soundtrack and keep all of the likes, comments, shares, and reach that have been placed on the post. Instagram called the feature a way for the platform to give creators more creative control over their content. 

The previous version of the post music feature allowed for deleting the entire post and starting from scratch, which meant creators had to decide whether to maintain engagement or keep up with the trends. The new feature will be available in the edit option of a post’s menu.

The update comes after a controversy about Instagram functionality users didn’t want. The company has since deleted a tool that enabled people to publish AI-edited photos on their public Instagram accounts, and has introduced a new feature called Instants that sends disappearing photos to a Friends list, which many users have mistakenly shared with the wrong people.
