Nigerian Troops Rescue 13 Kidnap Victims, Foil Fresh Attacks in Zamfara and Edo

Troops deployed in various theatres of operations have successfully retrieved 13 kidnapped victims, thwarted terrorist and kidnapping attacks and arrested a suspected militia member in synchronised operations in Zamfara, Edo, Taraba, and Plateau states, respectively.

 

The operational reports which the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was able to obtain on Wednesday showed the operations had been carried out under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Operation MESA and Operation ENDURING PEACE.

 

It reports that the soldiers of 1 Brigade who went to Zamfara to carry out Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued five kidnapped victims at a deserted kidnappers’ camp in Tungan Kudaduku in the Anka Local Government Area (LGA).

 

The rescue of the victims took place during a clearance search at the suspected criminal hideout at around 9.50 p.m. on Monday, the report said.

 

The troops also repelled a terrorist attack at Bukkuyum town in Bukkuyum LGA at around 3.10 a.m., killing one of the assailants in the process, she added.

 

Edo: Troops of 322 Artillery regiment and the police and local vigilantes in the community of Olelo in Esan West LGA thwarted a kidnap attempt.

 

A gun battle with the suspected kidnappers led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims.

Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, with three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition, two mobile phones and three power banks being recovered, the report said.

 

In Taraba, 93 Battalion of the army in collaboration with operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) arrested a suspected militia member at Bantaje in Wukari LGA.

The suspect had allegedly been a member of a militia group which has been involved in several kidnappings and recent attacks in Takum LGA in the area of Chanchanji.

 

Among the items recovered from the suspect were one motorcycle, three mobile phones and cash valued at ₦93,200, it said.

 

However, the report revealed that two students, one invigilator and the principal of Government Secondary School, Ollowa Opada, Dekina LGA of Kogi were kidnapped by suspected criminals.

 

Other security agencies joined in pursuit efforts to find the victims and catch the kidnappers, it said.

 

The report said the soldiers involved in the Operation ENDURING PEACE mission in the Plateau thwarted a kidnap attempt at Agingi Village in Bassa LGA where one victim was shot, but the report did not mention any other victim in the area.

 

The victim was rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment, according to the report.

 

It also says troops had also stopped a terrorist attack in Tanjol Community of Riyom LGA.

They retrieved and handed over the body of a civilian said to be murdered by unidentified persons at Gwom Village in Riyom LGA to the community leaders for burial, the report added.
