TikTok Scores Big With New App Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

The original functionality on TikTok was to upload videos, and for the most part, that’s still the case. The platform has changed over the years, though. The new addition is TikTok Shopping, where creators can sell products on the app. But TikTok’s not done yet, as it has launched a new app: TikTok Pro Events.

TikTok introduces TikTok Pro Events app

So, what is this new app on TikTok? As per TikTok, the Pro Events app will feature moments to celebrate culture, such as the FIFA World Cup. But what makes this app so different from, say, a dedicated FIFA app or YouTube? Well, via this app, users can become a part of communities and connect with other fans.

Users can find trending videos based around current events, as well as access curated feeds. The platform is even attempting to ‘gamify’ the entire process. This is achieved by means of “Stars,” which are offered to those aged 18 years and over. These stars can be earned by doing activities, and in turn they can be swapped for unique benefits.

This can be anything from official FIFA merchandise to TikTok Shop coupons or even donating to charities that are supported by TikTok. Right now it’s only available in the US and you can download it from either the iOS App Store or Google Play, although if you’re interested you can check out the TikTok Pro Events app.

But is this really needed?

With that said, we don’t have the “what’s the point” of this app. Or why not launch a standalone app if they can fit this feature into the main app? We assume one of the reasons is because a standalone app will be able to have themed components and be more immersive.

But also, there’s a chance that this app will divert traffic from the primary TikTok app. This would only further add to the confusion for the users on which app to use. The company recently introduced its hotel booking feature in the TikTok app, titled TikTok GO, so we’re not sure why this app had to be a standalone release.

Either way, only time will tell if this will become a mainstay or if it will end up in the app graveyard.
