A drug-crazed terrorist couple who prepared a bomb to carry out a bombing in a busy venue was revealed by counterintelligence. The offenders are punished with a maximum penalty of 12 years imprisonment and property seizure.
A pair of Russian spies who were planning a terrorist attack in the Kharkiv centre was arrested by the counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine. This was reported by UNN, referencing the SBU.
Details
As per the investigation, the attackers prepared their own homemade bomb, which they were to place in the central area of Kharkiv and detonate it among the largest crowd of people. Their Russian handlers were hoping to create panic in Kharkiv so as to destabilise the social-political situation in the frontline city.
The detainees turned out to be a local married couple of drug addicts who came to the attention of the occupiers, who were looking for “money for a dose” in Telegram channels.
Following the arrest, at the time of searches, a ready-made improvised explosive device, traces of explosive elements, mobile phones to remotely activate the explosion, and a smartphone with traces of contacts with a Russian intelligence agent were discovered and confiscated.
Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation of a terrorist act by prior conspiracy of a group of persons) informed the detainees that they were suspected. The suspects are under arrest – they can be imprisoned for up to 12 years, and property can be seized.
