On 13th Mar, Ghana marked the start of the 2026 Ghana Culture Week through exhibitions of traditional dance, traditional art displays and cultural shows to portray the rich Ghanaian heritage.
Themed Resetting Ghana Tourism Culture and Creative Ecosystem, the event involved high-end discussions, exhibitions and performances. Ghana also showcased its rich textile culture, such as handwoven Kente cloth and the Fugu smock, which were on display in different designs at the event.
The Ghanaian culinary heritage was also displayed, and 69 traditional dishes were offered to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Ghanaian independence in the West African country.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie, tourism, culture and creative arts minister, opined that the multiplicity of languages, music and dance traditions, clothing, cuisine and festivals is evidence of the richness of the Ghana cultural heritage that should be celebrated on a daily basis.
“Ghana is an abundant culture with our cuisine, clothes, dance and folklore, among others. This culture cannot be celebrated only once a year, month or week. It is an everyday thing, something that has to be done every day,” Gomashie said.
Maame Efua Houadjeto, the chief executive officer of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), is quoted as saying that the celebration is also a call to action in order to enhance cooperation within the sector and an ecosystem of tourism, culture and creativity to be globally competitive.
Houadjeto also emphasised strategic marketing and branding to bring investment and tourism into the cultural resources of the country.
She indicated that the GTA would remain mirrored in supporting activities that advertise indigenous food, culture, international engagements and local tourism in accordance with the government vision of resetting and enhancing the tourism sector in Ghana.
