Pink and Green Northern Lights Dazzle UK Skies

People across the UK were treated to a rare and beautiful sight as the Northern Lights lit up the night sky. Shades of green, pink, and purple were seen across many parts of the country.

The display was spotted on Monday night in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and large areas of England. Some people even saw the lights as far south as Devon. Stunning photos were shared from places like Stonehenge, Liverpool, Ipswich, and Hoylake.

The Met Office confirmed that a strong geomagnetic storm caused the event. It said auroras were visible across the UK and even reported as far south as northern Italy.

The Northern Lights, also called the Aurora Borealis, usually appear near the Arctic Circle. This occurred because of the energy of Sun. When energy of Sun reached in atmosphere, they react with different gases and different bright colors can be seen in Sky.

The green colour comes from oxygen particles, while pink, purple, and blue shades are caused by nitrogen.

The Met Office said solar activity is expected to reduce, but people in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland may still get a chance to see the lights again.

The rare event left many sky-watchers amazed and excited. For people living far from the Arctic Circle, it was a special chance to witness one of nature’s most stunning light shows.
